Relais Sant’Uffizio, five-star hotel in Piedmont

Your Wellness
Sanctuary

The sixteenth century Relais Sant’Uffizio, once a monastery, has been beautifully restored as an enchanting five-star hotel in the Piedmont region, where it becomes a captivating destination and true temple of wellness. Immersed in the evocative winegrowing landscape of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage site, it offers the extraordinarily beautiful scenery of vineyards, olive groves, leafy parks, and hills dotted with picturesque red brick towns.
The Relais is an example of Renaissance-era ecclesiastical architecture and the region’s distinctive materials: red brick veneers and delicate, mint green shutters that open out onto a majestic natural landscape permeated by the sweet scent of grapes.
An exclusive, alluring place, Relais Sant’Uffizio combines history, nature, old-fashioned hospitality, and a renowned culinary and wine tradition that creates a harmonious experience par excellence.
The elegant reconstruction work combines the solemnity and spirituality of the original building with the contemporary comfort and luxury of a five-star hotel, creating a unique immersion into the heart of Piedmont’s historic and natural heritage.
The close relationship between the historic architecture and the surrounding landscape is evident as soon as you enter the new reception area, where soft, warm light envelops the rooms and delicate botanical and floral decorations adorn the ceilings, allowing nature to symbolically enter the common areas as guests are welcomed into a refined, relaxing atmosphere.

FAQ

What is the history of Relais Sant’Uffizio and what makes it unique among hotels in Piedmont?2026-07-02T11:56:47+00:00

Relais Sant’Uffizio is a 5-star hotel set in a former 16th-century monastery, historically linked to Dominican friars, silk production, and even events related to the Inquisition. Reborn from its 500-year-old monastic roots, the property has been carefully restored — with the renovation completed in 2026 — preserving this historical identity while reinterpreting it with contemporary elegance, offering 36 rooms and suites in a setting that blends spirituality, architecture, and design.

Where is Relais Sant’Uffizio located and what does the surrounding Monferrato area offer?2026-07-02T11:57:40+00:00

Relais Sant’Uffizio is located in Monferrato, between Asti and the Langhe, in one of Italy’s most important UNESCO wine regions. Unlike the busier Tuscan hills, Monferrato offers a slower pace and an authentic Italian countryside experience, making it a perfect base for exploring Langhe and Asti. The area offers vineyards, historic villages, wineries such as Tenuta Santa Caterina, and activities like Vespa riding, Barbera and Barolo tastings, and cultural itineraries. It is also well positioned for trips to the Cinque Terre and the Alps, making it ideal for combined itineraries between sea, mountains, and countryside.

Guests Reviews

A complete experience of wine, spa, and fine dining

James Wilson

Booked a weekend here and came away wishing we’d stayed longer. Monferrato turned out to be a great spot for getting into the Langhe and Asti, and it’s no hassle from Milan.

The spa was the standout for us — heated pool, a sauna with an actual view, and quiet the whole time. Dinner at Locanda Sant’Uffizio was the kind you remember, very Piedmontese but not stuck in the past. We also did a Barbera tasting down in the cellar, which was a nice way to round off the night.

Perfect for a long stay between countryside, lakes, and sea

Thomas Moreau

We picked this place for a longer trip and it worked out as the ideal base. From here we reached the lakes, got into Turin, and even managed a day down at the Cinque Terre.

It feels smart without being stiff, so it’s easy to settle into. The Vespa tour through the vineyards was a highlight, and we squeezed in a couple of tastings. Rooms are big and comfortable, and after a full day out the spa was exactly what we wanted. If you want to see Piedmont without rushing, I’d recommend it.

High-level corporate event in a unique setting

Camille Dupont

We ran a company event here and it went off without a hitch. The meeting rooms are well thought out and handled our group of about 50 fine. Staff were on it the whole time without hovering.

The sunset aperitif at the Pool Bar, hills in front of you, was the bit everyone talked about afterwards. Food was excellent across the board, from the bistrot up to the Michelin restaurant. Easy to get to from both Turin and Milan, which kept the logistics simple.

Total relaxation in a 16th-century monastery

Maximilian Fischer

Sleeping in a 16th-century monastery that’s now a five-star hotel is a strange and lovely thing — the history’s right there, but you’re not roughing it.

The warm tones and the interiors make it very easy to switch off. We ended up spending most of our time on the patio and in the spa, one of the better ones we’ve used in Piedmont. The room was big and properly quiet. Good for couples, or honestly anyone who wants to disappear for a few days.

Great for families as well as couples

Sophie Wagner

Stayed here with the kids and it was a real success. The connecting rooms — ours was even split over two levels — are great when you’ve got children.

The Krumiri tasting was a surprise hit; the whole family got into it. It’s safe, surrounded by countryside, and calm. The outdoor pool and Pool Bar kept everyone happy. It manages to be properly nice without being precious about kids being around, which we appreciated.

A must for spa lovers

Dmitry Ivanov

If the spa is what you’re here for, you won’t be disappointed. Aquanatura is big, nicely done, and the views over the hills are something else.

The heated pool and the panoramic sauna were the parts we kept going back to. It never felt busy, which I think is deliberate. The suites are roomy too, so the wind-down carries on once you’re back in the room. We finished the day with an aperitif and dinner at the bistrot — hard to fault.

Strategic location to explore Piedmont

Emma Neumann

The location does a lot of the work. We were close to Asti, the Langhe and some seriously good wineries, and in a few days we’d been to Barolo and out to estates like Tenuta Santa Caterina.

It’s an easy run from Milan and Turin as well, so it works even if you’ve only got a couple of nights. Solid base for a food-and-wine trip.

Outstanding culinary experience

Juliette Mercier

The food’s the main event, really. Locanda Sant’Uffizio gives you the full Michelin treatment, while the bistrot does proper traditional dishes done well.

We worked through a fair few Piedmontese specialities and some very good desserts. The cellar’s worth a look too, heavy on local labels. If you’re into food and wine, this is your kind of place.

Relaxing atmosphere and refined design

Emily Smith

What stayed with us was the feel of the place. Warm colours, elegant rooms, and you can tell someone’s sweated the details — refined, but still welcoming.

The patio and the outdoor areas are perfect for sitting with a book. Little things help too, like having a lift. Good shout if you’re after peace and quiet.

A memorable stay between nature, wine, and comfort

Olga Sokolova

We had a few days here I won’t forget in a hurry. Between the spa, the tastings, getting out and about, and plain doing nothing, there was always something on

— we even drove a sports car through the vineyards and bottled our own wine label to take home. The mix of nature, wine and proper service is well judged. One of those places you start planning a return to before you’ve even left.
